Tom Thomas affirms its commitment to presenting Decorative Arts as being the vibrant representation of human culture through its objects. Humans seek to have connection to their past, traditions and culture and the culture of others through objects. Objects have great meaning for us if we listen to them. Dealers and galleries have the opportunity to select and present what is most important from the whole of art history. We take this commitment passionately.
The gallery is based in the heart of New York City. In the past several
years we have presented several important exhibitions on topics. We have
explored the evolution of Italian lighting from 1945 to 1980, the work of
Early German Modernism leading up to the Bauhaus Movement, the glory of
French Ironwork of the 1940's. And now we showcase works from Maison Jansen,
the designers for aristocrats, stars and royalty.
Our objects have found placement not only in the best homes on Park Avenue and Beverly Hills but also in photo shoots for Prada, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and the sets for Sex in the City. We have continually gained outstanding press attention in the Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, Art & Auction, Art and Antiques, the New York Times and Italian Architectural Digest. In addition the gallery maintains a lively relationship with major museums and we track the movement of important pieces throughout the world.
Although we are primarily interested in the 20th Century we realize the roots of what is called 'Modernism' are timeless. Therefore, Ancient civilizations, or France during the Directoire period and Africa are not beyond our scope, nor are obscure European creators from the 30's. Our search is continual; we hope you will join us in the adventure of discovery.
